Don’t Know

There are few questions in the minds of refugees as they prepare to leave their homeland, beyond Where will we go? and How will we get there? If they were to ask, for example, How will we get by in this new place? Will our children still know our language and culture? How will this change affect our family? Will I see my sisters and brothers again? How will our children learn our ways? I wonder, would they continue on their journeys?

New frontiers – physically & culturally – are a complex space of instability and possibility. Don’t Know is about uncertainty & the instability of identity in the complex space where origins, family, culture, language, nationality meet & collide with those in another place. How does identity like that look visually?

In this body of work I’m interested in displacement of my subjects, psyches in uncertainty, and the sometimes ambiguous identities that result from that displacement.
